Two new products from test & measurement innovators, Pico Technology, offer a quantum improvement in PC based oscilloscope technology. While most digital scopes offer only 8 bit resolution (0.4%), the Pico ADC-212 and ADC-216 virtual instruments offer impressive resolutions of 12 and 16 bits (250 and 15 parts per million). This means that these dual channel instruments are ideally suited to precision applications like audio testing and analysis, vibration and noise measurements, and power supply design.
Units are supplied with powerful software for Windows 3.1, 95/98/2000 and NT. The easy-to-use PicoScope software enables your computer to operate simultaneously as an oscilloscope, spectrum analyser and multimeter. The ADC-212 provides a 3MS/s oscilloscope and a 1500kHz spectrum analyser, while the higher resolution ADC-216 provides a 333 ksps oscilloscope and a 166 kHz spectrum analyser. Also supplied is PicoLog which enables the units to function as high resolution data loggers. Software drivers are supplied with examples for LabVIEW, HP Vee, Visual Basic, Excel, Delphi and C for those who wish to write their own software.
The new units connect to the parallel port of any PC, and hence do not require complicated installation procedures often associated with many internal PC cards and are free from any potential noise problems. They offer the obvious advantages associated with PC based measurement equipment, such as the ability to print and save waveforms or reports and the improved clarity of a colour monitor. The precision scopes are a valuable addition to Pico`s already comprehensive range and demonstrate their continued commitment to quality measurement equipment at affordable prices.
The ADC-216 is priced at £499, while the ADC-212 is just
£299, which represents excellent value for scopes of this
resolution and functionality. Both units are supplied with necessary
cables and power supply.
